UA piano recital

Pianist Annie Balabanian will give a recital at 8 p.m. Friday in Giffels Auditorium, Old Main, University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, in collaboration with the King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies. The program will include works by Armenian composers Soghomon Soghomonian, Aram Khachaturian, Boghos Gelalian, Edvard Bagdasarian, Arno Babajanian, Alexander Harutyounyan and Edvard Mirzoyan. Shakespeare scenes

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock English and theater and dance departments will hold the 2015 Shakespeare Scene Festival, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday in University Theater, Center for Performing Arts, UALR, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock.

Approximately 300 students from central Arkansas schools -- Oak Grove and Warren Dupree elementary schools, Henderson and Sheridan middle schools, J.A. Fair, Little Rock Central, Clarendon and Perryville high schools -- will perform over the two days.

Red Octopus tryouts

Sketch comedy troupe Red Octopus Theater will hold a second round of auditions for actors, writers and crew, 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Public Theater, 616 Center St., Little Rock. No preparation, photograph or music -- just show up. Auditions for actors will consist of readings from Red Octopus scripts; for writers (encouraged to bring a sample of their material) and crew, in-person interviews. Film festival
