BASKETBALL

Ozarks’ Andrews honored

University of the Ozarks senior guard Jordana Andrews was named American Southwest Conference player of the week Monday. Andrews made 5-of-7 three pointers and scored 22 points, with 4 assists and 5 rebounds in a victory over Louisiana College Thursday.

OBU’s Brown recognized

Ouachita Baptist forward Tirrell Brown was named men’s player of the week by the Great American Conference Monday. Brown, who was named player of the week for the second time this month, scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday. Saturday, he scored 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting against Southern Nazarene

BASEBALL

Henderson 13th in national poll

Henderson State remained 13th in this week’s Division II Collegiate Baseball Poll. The Reddies (8-2, 4-2 Great American Conference) won 2 of 3 games against Arkansas Tech. The Reddies lead the GAC with a .306 batting average and a 2.21 earned-run average.

GYMNASTICS

Arkansas 17th in regional rankings

Arkansas was ranked 17th in Gyminfo’s Regional Qualifying Scores rankings Monday. The regional qualifying scores are used to determine which 36 schools will qualify for the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Regional. The Razorbacks are ranked 17th with a score of 195.820, coming off a 194.825 performance against Kentucky. Arkansas is ranked ninth in vault at 49.225 and tied for 10th in the floor exercise at 49.165. The Razorbacks are ranked 17th in the uneven bars at 49.000 and 39th on the balance beam at 48.435. Sophomore Amanda Wellick is ranked seventh on the vault at 9.915, 12th in the all-around at 39.250 and 14th in the floor exercise at 9.890. Junior Heather Elswick is ranked 25th in the floor exercise at 9.865.

SOFTBALL

Wooo Pig Classic canceled

Arkansas canceled the Wooo Pig Classic scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Bogle Park due to inclement weather. The Razorbacks, instead, will travel to Hammond, La., to play in a four-team tournament hosted by Southeastern Louisiana that includes Alcorn State and Tennessee-Martin.

GOLF

UALR women tied for lead

UALR is in second place after two rounds at the USA Women’s Invitational Monday at Aztea City Golf Club in Mobile, Ala. Memphis leads the event with a 608 while UALR shot a 617. Western Kentucky is in third place at 618. UALR’s Stina Resen leads the field with a 2-over-par 146 with rounds of 75 and 71. Memphis’ Leighann Cabush is in second place with a 4-over-par 148. Sofie Kvarnstrom of UALR is in sixth place with an 8-over-par 152.

ASU women ninth in Florida

Arkansas State shot a 623 through the first two rounds and are in ninth place at the Amelia Island Collegiate in Fernandina Beach, Fla. The Red Wolves shot a 312 in the first round and followed with a 311. Florida International leads with a 580 while North Florida is second at 583 and Daytona State College is third at 584. Megan Garland is tied for ninth with a 146 (72-74).

UCA women in third place

Central Arkansas is in third place at the Islander Classic at Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Sugar Bears shot a 312 and trail Lamar (307) and Sam Houston State (309) in the 16-team field. Brenda Gonzalez and Kendra Mann both shot a 76 and are tied for fourth place. The tournament concludes today.

TRACK AND FIELD

UA women No. 1, men No. 3

Arkansas’ women are ranked No. 1 for the second consecutive week in the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association rankings. SEC teams Georgia and Florida are second and third, while Texas and Oregon are fourth and fifth. Arkansas is also ranked No. 1 in the South Central Regional.

Arkansas’ men are No. 3 behind Florida and Oregon with Texas A&M and Texas at 4 and 5. They are also ranked second in the South Central Regional.
