Man pleads guilty in fatal shooting

NEWPORT -- A Jonesboro man pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated robbery in the August 2013 death of a Newport man, Prosecuting Attorney Henry H. Boyce said.

Christopher D. Lee, 22, entered the plea in Jackson County Circuit Court. Circuit Judge Harold Erwin sentenced Lee to 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction.

In January, Garrett Allen Chamblis, 21, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and abusing a corpse and was sentenced to 47 years in prison.

The two were charged in the death of Harold Lee Hagar, 66, of Newport.

In an arrest affidavit, police said the two met Hagar at Craighead Forest Park in Jonesboro on Aug. 17, 2013, and robbed him and took his car.
