Ole Miss pitchers too much for ASU

MISSISSIPPI 2, ARKANSAS STATE 1

Arkansas State (4-3) was held to three hits in a 2-1 loss to Mississippi (5-2) on Tuesday at Swayze Field in Oxford, Miss.

Austin Baker, Stuart Levy and Ty White each had a hit for the Red Wolves. Zach George scored ASU's only run.

Sikes Orvis went 2 for 4 with 1 home run and 2 runs scored for Ole Miss. Austin Knight also had two hits for the Rebels.

ASU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning without a hit. George was hit by a pitch with one out, Levy and Tanner Ring walked, and George scored on White's groundout.

Ole Miss tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning on Orvis' home run to right field with two outs.

Knight's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth gave the Rebels a 2-1 lead.

ASU did not record its first hit until the top of the fifth inning when Baker singled to right field with two outs, but ASU couldn't capitalize as Baker was out at second on a fielder's choice to end the inning.

The Red Wolves had chances to tie the game in the top of the sixth and the eighth.

White singled to left field with two outs and advanced to second base on a wild pitch, but Joe Schrimpf struck out swinging to end the Red Wolves' threat in the sixth.

In the top of the eighth, Levy singled to left field but was picked off first base for the final out of the inning.

Evan Anderson allowed 1 run on 1 hit over 5 innings for Ole Miss. Will Stokes pitched one inning of scoreless relief to earn the save.

Chandler Hawkins took the loss for ASU, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings.
