Rick Lee’s Oaklawn Park selections and analysis

FIRST POST — 1:30 P.M.

Exotic wager possibilities

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette handicapper Rick Lee seeks out horses who make good “key” horses in multihorse and/or multi-race wagers, commonly called exotic wagers.

The first-race trifecta seems hittable with a likely winner in Swift Humor, and the field size is large but contention for the minor placings may not be all that contentious. The 50-cent Pick 4 starting in the second may pay off in a big way as the second race has 11 horses and several contenders, and the second leg has a probable winner in Cozzy Street to help cut costs. The third leg drew a field of 12 and a player must go several deep, and the final leg (fifth race) has several contenders who are big prices on the morning line.

LONG SHOT Scott Man in the fifth

** Things to like

*** Plenty to like

**** Confident choice

1 Purse $20,000, 6 furlongs, 3-year-olds and up, maiden claiming $12,500

****SWIFT HUMOR showed vastly improved early speed in a fourth-place finish, and he is dropping to the bottom of the local maiden ranks and is strictly the one to catch and beat. BATTLE ADMIRAL ran two solid races last summer at Louisiana Downs, he shows good recent works and is dropping into a maiden claiming race for the first time. TYLER T has competitive Beyer figures and has finished in the money in five consecutive races, and the 22-race maiden is having blinkers removed.

2 Purse $20,000, 5½ furlongs, 4-year-olds and up, claiming $5,000

***RIGHT SQUALL defeated $25,000 claimers two races back at Remington, and the veteran is a good finisher in a field loaded with early speed. DANCE FLOOR MANIAC has won two consecutive races at this $5,000 claiming price, and he figures to be in a good position to take over entering the stretch. LAOPE is a very quick sprinter who has a strong record at this claiming price, and he has winning connections.

3 Purse $25,500, 1 1/16 miles, fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, maiden claiming $25,000 ***COZZY STREET made a gradual gain to fifth in a maiden allowance race, and she is dropping in class and moving from an outside to inside post position. YOOOU DEN had to overcome a troubled start and a wide trip in an encouraging third-place sprint debut finish, and the Florida-bred filly is bred to run this far. MY SISTER NELL has rallied in consecutive in-the-money finishes at this level and will need an honest pace for her best chance to upset.

4 Purse $20,000, 1 1/16 miles, 3-year-olds and up who have never won two races, claiming $10,000

**HANSLOW followed a clear maiden sprint victory at Remington with a third-place finish in an unusually fast conditioned claiming route, and he is lightly raced and may not have to improve to find the winner’s circle. STONECRUSHER is dropping a condition following a useful fifth-place finish, and he broke his maiden over a wet track at Ellis. MUZU finished fourth from a poor two-turn post in his local debut, and he showed plenty of promise last winter.

**SCOTT MAN has not raced in 15 months, but in his last race he was beaten only a nose at Churchill and trainer Aaron Shorter excels with come-backers. FULMERIZED has been on the bench since last March, but he is the speed of the speed and trainer Cody Autrey appears to have him working in fine order. MISSION CRITICAL is dropping to the bottom of the maiden claiming ranks following a front-running sixth-place debut, and he may go much farther at this level and with new rider Shaun Bridgmohan.

**WHAT LOLA WANTS broke a tad slow in a sharp photo-finish defeat in her first local race, and it is difficult to look past the fact she has finished first or second in 15 of her past 16 races. STAR TOUR has made every pole a winning one in back-to-back sprint victories, and she is again the quickest of the speed in this field. SHE’SABREES was a seven-time winner last season, and the consistent mare defeated $30,000 claimers only two races back.

**WEAST HILL is an unraced 3-year-old who has a win early pedigree, and he has good works dating to last August at Churchill, and trainer Brad Cox is having a good meeting. SANDHILL SAMMY set the pace in a clear runner-up finish, and he has consistent early speed and drew well for a sprinter with early speed. NEED A ALIBI weakened inside the final furlong after setting an honest pace in his return from a 10-month vacation, and he may rate more kindly with blinkers off.

DEVIOUS D’ORO has finished second in five of her past six sprint races, and she appears too talented to remain at this level for much longer. ELECTRIC TEMPTRESS is moving up a condition following a determined and troubled effort, and she was scratched last Friday in favor of this race.

WICKEDLY SWEET has not raced in 11 months, but she finished second in both of her races last winter at Oaklawn, and the front-runner appears to be working smartly for her return. KATIE O. did not show much last summer at Churchill, but she raced well in maiden allowance races earlier in the year at Oaklawn and recent 5-furlong breezes are encouraging.
