Conditions were improving but some highways remained slick in the southern half of Arkansas on Thursday, a day after a system dropped several inches of snow on the region.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department reported shortly before 11 a.m. that ice patches remained on highways in southwest Arkansas as well as Interstate 30 west of Little Rock and U.S. 165 east of Little Rock. Slush, meanwhile, was reported in areas around Camden, DeWitt, Sheridan, Fordyce and Pine Bluff.

In Little Rock, where the snow generally stuck only to grassy areas and not to roadways, conditions were reported to be clear.

Dozens of school districts, including Pine Bluff, Arkadelphia and White Hall, closed again for the day while others delayed. The city of Pine Bluff was to open at 10 a.m., and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff delayed until noon. A full list is available here.

Wednesday's snow fell generally in the southern half of the state. Downtown Little Rock got about an inch, while officials in Pine Bluff measured a half foot.

A cold front was moving through Arkansas on Thursday and light flurries were said to be possible, but the National Weather Service said no additional accumulations were expected.

Below-normal temperatures, including winds that make it feel below zero in northern Arkansas, were forecast Friday. And the weather service said additional wintry weather is possible Saturday morning before it turns into rain during the day.
