Trailer fire's body still unidentified

CONWAY -- Investigators were still trying to identify a person whose body was found in a burned mobile home near Vilonia over the weekend, the Faulkner County sheriff's office said Wednesday.

"Investigators are unclear as to who the victim was that died in the fire," the office said in a news release. "They believe the body that was discovered was a Hispanic male, but have no positive [identification] at this time."

Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to identify the victim and to determine the cause of death, the release added.

Chief Deputy Matt Rice said investigators still believe the person was the victim of a homicide. He would not say how authorities believe the person died.

The Vilonia and Hilltop volunteer fire departments responded to 29 Mini Farm Road south of Vilonia about 1:30 p.m. Sunday and extinguished the fire. Firefighters found the body in a bedroom.
