Tulsa man gets 8 life sentences in murder case

TULSA — A judge has sentenced a Tulsa man convicted of murder and other crimes to life without parole and seven additional consecutive life sentences.

George Emile July was found guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping, assault, battery with a deadly weapon, drug possession and possessing a firearm after a former felony conviction.

Prosecutors said July beat to death 34-year-old Quinton Shaver in 2013 after holding him and two women captive in a home. One of the female victims said she had been dating July at the time, but was stripped of her clothes and forced to watch Shaver's death.

The Tulsa World reported that a motive into the killings wasn't given during the trial.

A public defender representing July said they are filing an appeal.
