Karen Moustafa Leonard

Where I live: I live with my husband, John, in Otter Township near East End in Saline County. We chose this area because all the houses have very large lots.

Occupation: I am a professor of management in the College of Business at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

My favorite space is: Our bedroom.

Why? It is a very comfortable room with lots of natural light and a large window facing the backyard and deck. We seldom close the curtains to this window because it is so private. We can see the trees, birds and squirrels. We each contributed to the decor. I chose the curtains; my husband chose the bedspread. On the floor are several Egyptian rugs, which are reminders of my late husband, who was Egyptian and collected them. Between us, John and I have three grown children and seven grandchildren. Family pictures and artwork by the grandchildren cover the walls. As a professor and freelance writer, I do a lot of writing. For this purpose, I have a writing corner in one area of the room. It is a nice room in which to go to bed at night, and it is a sunny room in which to awaken each morning.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Make it larger. As it is, it's a lovely space, but it is always nicer to have more room in which to live.
