David Owen pitched seven shutout innings and Stuart Levy scored twice to lead Arkansas State over Houston Baptist on Friday in Houston.

Owen (2-1) scattered 7 hits over 8 innings while striking out 5 and allowing 1 walk for the Red Wolves (5-3).

Levy went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, while Ty White was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Austin Baker, Joe Schrimpf and Matt Burgess each drove in runs.

With the game scoreless in the top of the fourth inning, Levy hit a one-out double and then scored on Schrimpf’s single to give ASU a 1-0 lead. White singled in the sixth and scored on Baker’s double to make it 2-0, and ASU went up 3-0 later in the sixth when Levy singled, moved to second on a groundout, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on Burgess’ single.

Houston Baptist’s Austin Saenz hit a two-run double off Colton Kibler in the ninth, but Kibler got Andrew Alvarez to pop out and Josh Martinez to ground out to end the game.

MISSOURI STATE 6,

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 4

Connor Gilmore gave up two runs in the third inning and three runs in the fifth and Central Arkansas was shut out through seven innings Friday in a loss to Missouri State in Natchitoches, La.

Eduardo Castro had an RBI double and Blake Graham drove in a run with a groundout to give Missouri State a 2-0 lead in the third inning.

Gilmore made it through the fourth unscathed, but Tate Matheny singled and scored on an error and Justin Paulsen hit a two-run double in the fifth to give Missouri State (5-2) a 5-0 lead.

The Bears (3-2) scored all of their runs in the eighth when Nate Ferrell hit a home run and Joey Pinney hit a pinchhit three-run double to pull the Bears to within 5-4. Missouri State added a run in the bottom of the eighth off reliever Bo Stitch.

Gilmore (1-2) gave up 5 runs, 2 earned, on 7 hits and struck out 4 over 5 innings.

Travis Hull went 3 for 5 for UCA, while Ferrell and Matt Anderson each had two hits.

ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 7-1, TEXAS SOUTHERN 2-2

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2-6) opened its three-game series against Texas Southern (5-5) on Friday with a doubleheader split in Houston.

Chris Burns went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored to lead UAPB in the opener. Rashawn Tillman was 1 for 3 and drove in 2 runs for the Golden Lions, and Jerimiah Figuero drove in 2 runs.

Billy Olson picked up his first victory of the season, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk over 7 innings.

Texas Southern salvaged a split in the second game when Zach Howell drove in Ryan Lazo for the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 10th inning. Lazo finished 3 for 5 in the game.

Devin Konarik (1-0) didn’t allow a run or a hit over 1 2/3 innings to earn the victory.

Kevin Walsh allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 2 1/3 innings and took the loss.

The teams will close out their series with a 1 p.m. game today.
