Educator beaten; girl, 13, arrested

A 13-year-old student at Pulaski Heights Middle School was charged Tuesday with second-degree battery, accused of knocking an assistant principal at the school to the ground and punching her in the face, Little Rock police reported.

The 13-year-old girl, whose name was not released, was transported from the school at 401 N. Pine St. to the Pulaski County Juvenile Detention Center.

The assistant principal, Sharon Cauley, 66, told police that she heard a disturbance in a classroom around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday and asked a 14-year-old girl in the classroom to step into the hallway to talk about what was happening. Police said the 13-year-old girl tried to push through Cauley to continue fighting the 14-year-old.

Police said Cauley told them that "she attempted to block [the] suspect from getting [the 14-year-old]," and the "suspect took her to the ground and punched her."

A teacher in the classroom told police that the girl "took Cauley to the ground and punched her in the facial region for an estimated 20 seconds." The teacher said that the disturbance started with the suspect bullying the 14-year-old about her hair, police reported.

Cauley complained of head and neck pain and had trouble walking after the attack, police said. She was transported to CHI St. Vincent Infirmary and later released.

Ran from gunman, store cashier says

Little Rock police are searching for a man who attempted to rob a Walgreens store at gunpoint Tuesday night and another man who ran out of the store behind the gunman, according to a police report.

The report said that officers responded to the Walgreens at 7601 Cantrell Road around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday. A cashier told police that the gunman entered the store and displayed a black semi-automatic handgun that appeared to have an extension on the barrel.

The employee and a customer both ran from the checkout area, police said. The cashier told officers that the gunman then ran from the store, followed by another man. The report states that it is unknown if the second man knew the gunman.

No money was taken from the business, police said.

The gunman is described as a 5-foot-10, 190-pound black man of an unknown age. He was wearing a black knit hat, black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

The second man is described as a 5-foot-10 black man of unknown weight and age. He was wearing a brown and red hat, and a gray coat.

18-year-old held in rape of girl, 13

A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Little Rock police and charged with rape, according to an arrest report.

Jason Spencer, 18, of 517 E. 15th St. in Little Rock, was arrested at 1 p.m. Wednesday and charged with engaging in sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old, police said.

Spencer was being held in the Pulaski County jail Wednesday night with no bail set.
