Library displaying small-art exhibit

"Small Works on Paper," a competitive visual art exhibition by the Arkansas Arts Council, is on display at the William F. Laman Library exhibition gallery, 2801 Orange St., in North Little Rock through Jan. 27.

In its 28th year, the mobile exhibit showcases artwork no larger than 24-by-24 inches by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery of Arkansas artists.

The show, featuring 40 works of art by 29 artists, will be at 10 galleries throughout the state during the year-long tour.

Deadlines soon fornonprofit's awards

Scholarship deadlines are approaching in competitions sponsored by the nonprofit Thea Foundation, 401 Main St., North Little Rock.

High school seniors are eligible to register for one of six 2015 scholarship competitions: Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Creative Writing, Fashion Design, Poetry Slam and Film.

The Performing Arts competition deadline is Monday, and the competition will take place Saturday. For more information or to register online, visit theafoundation.org.

The Visual Arts deadline is Jan. 19, which includes senior and junior levels. The senior level is for scholarships while the junior competition is for cash prizes.

Deadlines for registering for other competitions are: Jan. 26 for Creative Writing, March 2 for Fashion Design, March 16 for Poetry Slam and March 27 for Film.

The Thea Foundation annually awards $80,000 in the six scholarship categories to 30 graduating high school seniors from throughout the state, according to the nonprofit's website.
