Passenger killed in wreck on icy I-49

A Rogers man was killed early Sunday when the vehicle he was riding in slid on an icy Interstate 49 and overturned in the median, authorities said.

It happened about 5:20 a.m. as Diana A. Banister, 41, of Rogers was driving on I-49 north of Winslow, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police say the vehicle, which was not identified in the report, slid off the interstate in a left-hand curve before overturning multiple times and coming to a rest upright.

A passenger, Mark S. Londrie, 49, suffered fatal injuries. Banister and a second passenger, 36-year-old Joshua M. Goodhue of Mills, Wyo., were taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville with unspecified injuries.

Conditions at the time of the single-vehicle wreck were said to by icy on the interstate as a misting rain fell.

The death is one of nine reported in a traffic crash so far this year in Arkansas, according to preliminary figures.
