Defensive living expo offers handgun class

Oak Grove Life Center, a nonprofit organization and outreach of ThatChurch.com, will offer a Defensive Living Expo on Jan. 31. The event will include a concealed-carry handgun class, as well as seminars, training and demonstrations on defensive living.

The expo runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and will be held at the center, 10025 Oakland Drive, in North Little Rock.

Al Graham, director of the center, said off-duty law enforcement officers will lead the handgun class. Participants will attend class before shooting on the range. The class will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and participants must be at least 21.

The expo will also include information on self-defense, and participants will be taught how to avoid high-risk environments as well as defense tactics. Other topics include home security, how to prevent break-ins and what to do if an intruder enters the house.

"We'll be teaching about situational awareness," Graham said. "Let's say you come out of the grocery store. How do you approach your car? Look under it as you approach. Look in the back seat."

The expo will also address topics including the best guns for defending against a home invasion, the effectiveness of Mace and pepper spray, and how a flashlight or umbrella can be an effective weapon against an attack.

"We just want people to be more aware of the world we live in and how to protect themselves," Graham said.

An all-day pass is $99 and includes the concealed-carry class and the other seminars, demonstrations and training. A half-day pass is $50 and does not include the handgun class. Tickets are available by clicking on the Defensive Living Expo tab at oakgrovelifecenter.com.
