UCA women end three-game skid

The Central Arkansas women's basketball team did two things that had eluded it in the past three games.

It scored more than 50 points and earned a victory.

UCA rebounded from a halftime deficit to score 32 second-half points in a 53-46 victory over New Orleans on Wednesday at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans. It ended a three-game losing streak for the Sugar Bears, who were held to 46 points or less in each loss.

Maggie Proffitt and Kendara Watts scored 16 points each for UCA (10-8, 3-3 Southland Conference), which outscored New Orleans (2-13, 0-6) 32-22 in the second half. New Orleans led 24-21 at halftime.

Brianna Mullins added eight points for UCA, which won for the first time since Jan. 6.

New Orleans was 3 of 7 from three-point range in the first half while building its lead, but 0 for 6 in the second half. Yasmin Taylor led New Orleans with 11 points.

UCA trailed 26-21 early in the second half before going on an 8-2 run to go up 29-28. After it was tied 36-36, the Sugar Bears went on a 9-2 run to go up 45-38 and didn't give up the lead again.
