Clarksville facility expanding, adding 120 jobs

A Clarksville facility that makes sheer hosiery and seamless bras for retailers including Wal-Mart will invest $1.4 million in an expansion that will create 120 new jobs, the Arkansas Department of Economic Development said Friday.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson was scheduled to attend the official announcement of the HanesBrands expansion Friday morning at the Clarksville plant.

According to a news release, the facility will renovate and purchase new equipment and then add the new positions, which will raise its number of employees to 570.

The release described the Clarksville facility as "one of the largest hosiery knitting facilities in the world."

The new jobs will pay an average of $39,000 a year.

Hutchinson in a statement thanked HanesBrands for its decision, saying the expansion "demonstrates the quality of our workforce in Clarksville.”

“As companies continue to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S., we are committed to making Arkansas a leader in job creation and manufacturing,” he said.

Former Gov. Mike Beebe frequently attended job creation and expansion announcements at companies around the state. Friday's expansion marked the first such appearance for Hutchinson, who has said economic development is a top priority.
