Lane restrictions set at Big Rock interchange, on I-40, I-540

Lane closures are planned next week at the Big Rock interchange in west Little Rock and on Interstate 40 in Lonoke County and Interstate 540 between Fort Smith and Van Buren, the Arkansas Department of Highways and Transportation said Friday.

The restrictions at the Big Rock interchange where Interstates 630 and 430 meet will be in effect between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The highway department said the inside lane of westbound I-630 between the I-430 bridge and Shackleford Road will be closed, and the inside lanes of northbound and southbound Shackleford will be closed between Birchwood Drive and Financial Centre Parkway.

Crews will be constructing curbs and gutters in the area during the restrictions. The new interchange is set to be complete in the summer.

Meanwhile, crews will also be working next week on an overpass above I-40 in Carlisle. The eastbound, outside lane on the interstate will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday between mile markers 181 and 183. The width of the eastbound exit to Arkansas 13 at mile marker 183 also will be restricted, highway officials said.

On I-540, bridge maintenance is scheduled between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday on the bridge over the Arkansas River between Fort Smith and Van Buren. The southbound, inside lane will be closed during the work.

In addition, work on the Interstate 40-Interstate 430 ramp bridge in Little Rock will require alternating lane closures next week, and the Interstate 430/I-630 Big Rock Interchange will undergo some work Saturday, state highway officials said Thursday.
