Springdale felon sentenced for gun possession

FAYETTEVILLE -- A Springdale man was sentenced to five years in federal prison Friday for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

James Ray King Jr., 57, also was ordered by U.S. District Judge Tim Brooks to serve three years of supervised release.

King pleaded guilty July 8 in U.S. District Court in Fayetteville. According to court records, Springdale police went March 26 to a disturbance at Johnson Meadows. When they arrived, officers saw King outside his apartment with a gun. King was taken into custody, and officers determined the gun was stolen.

Police also found pipes, digital scales and numerous plastic baggies used for packaging drugs in King's apartment and 14 grams of methamphetamine in yard debris near where King was taken into custody.

King previously was convicted of two felony drug charges.
