Higgins hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation and Springdale Har-Ber went on to defeat Fort Smith Southside, 52-50, in overtime at Wildcat Arena. Higgins added two free throws in overtime and finished with five points.

"Jacie hit the big shot to get us into overtime," Har-Ber coach Sandy Wright said. "She's been sick and hasn't had a lot of opportunity to shoot this week, so she did well to make that shot."

Har-Ber was still trailing late in the fourth quarter after Paige Redmond, the Lady Wildcats' top scorer, missed a 3-pointer. But Har-Ber controlled the rebound and the ball ended in the hands of Higgins, who made a contested 3-pointer from the wing.

Caroline Hornor then scored two quick baskets in overtime to help Har-Ber to a 50-44 lead. Horner scored 13 points and Bohannan 10 to lead Har-Ber (15-4, 4-1), which took its first lead when Hornor opened the fourth quarter with a three-point play.

Southside was in control for much of the game behind Whitney O'Dell, who finished with 15 points, and Allison Stone, who scored eight of her 12 points in the first half.

Har-Ber struggled mightily in the first half to trail 19-16 after two quarters. Redmond did not score in the first half and Bailey Schalk had two points on free throws.

During one stretch, Har-Ber either missed a shot or committed a turnover on seven consecutive possessions.

Southside was ahead 15-8 when Carlye Bohannan provided a spark for the Lady Wildcats. Bohannan flawed for a steal and a layup then worked inside for a rebound and a basket off a missed shot.

Bohannan then finished the first half with a layup after a defensive rebound to cut the Southside lead to 19-16.

"Carlye was definitely our spark tonight, overall," Wright said. "She was hustling and making things happen. Most of us were a step slow and she gave us the intensity we needed."

Boys

Har-Ber 72, Southside 56

Springdale Har-Ber placed five players in double figures while easing past Southside.

Mason Cline scored 15 points and Avery Benson 13 to lead the Wildcats (13-3, 4-0). J.P. Brandon followed with 11 while Mason McNee and Tereke Eckwood finished with 10 apiece. Kerry Knight added nine points while Seth Hawley finished with 15 to lead the Rebels (7-11, 1-4).

Har-Ber was in control throughout, leading 19-11 after one quarter and 37-29 at halftime.
