Applications open for Arkansas Century Farm program

Applications are now available for the 2015 Arkansas Century Farm program, the Arkansas Agriculture Department announced Monday.

The program, started in 2012, recognizes families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years, state Agriculture Department Director of Marketing Zachary Taylor said in a news release.

Farms must have been owned by the same family for 100 years by Dec. 31, according to the news release. The line of ownership can be through children, grandchildren, siblings and nieces or nephews and through marriage or adoption, Taylor said.

The farm must also be at least 10 acres of the original land acquisition and those acres must contribute to the farm's income, the release states.

Applicants who qualify for the program receive a personalized metal sign and certificate, Taylor said.

Applications must be filled out by legal owners of the land by May 31 and can be found here, or by calling (501) 683-4851.
