Don't wish it away

The ol' boy walked back into the house that morning, grumpy as usual. This time he actually had an excuse: He had slipped in the wet backyard, and his pants were soaked. And it was cold. And his left leg was muddy. And everything else in the world was wrong.

Nobody else was home to hear him grumbling, which only made matters worse. What fun is it to complain about life's being unfair if nobody is around to enjoy the rants?

After changing, he finally--finally--got around to picking up the paper and spreading it out on the kitchen table. One of the first stories he read: In the past week, hundreds of acres of land had been burnt to a crisp in Arkansas by wildfires. Some 22 counties had been fighting the flames. The front that passed through the state--the one that brought all the rain, and a little snow--was reason for celebration.

So there, fella. Quit your complaining. That rain was a blessing.

Next time, just watch your step.
