Master gardener to lead 3-day native plant workshop

ROGERS — Arkansas's 1996 Master Gardener of the Year plans to lead a three-day native plant workshop at Hobbs State Park.

Sharon Haley will head up the hands-on class for gardeners who want to grow native plants. Workshops are planned on Feb. 22, March 1 and March 8.

The focus will be individual gardens and realistic expectations for choosing native plants while integrating them into the landscape. Gardeners will design a space and make a specific plan for growing and maintaining the plants they choose.

Topics will include basic design suggestions, native species for northwest Arkansas gardens, choosing and finding plants, recognizing and controlling invasive plant species, insects and other garden guests and ways to solve specific problems in the garden.

The workshop will look at ways to save time and money.
