TRACK AND FIELD

Arkansas women ranked fifth

Arkansas was ranked fifth by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Association on Monday.

SEC teams Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M took the top three spots while Oregon is ranked fourth. The Razorbacks were ranked No. 1 in the South Central Regional Rankings.

Arkansas participated in the Rod McCravy Memorial at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky., Friday and Saturday. Sandi Morris won her third consecutive pole vault title by clearing 14 feet, 10-1/4 inches to set a meet record. Dominique Scott won the women’s mile with a personal best of 4 minutes, 32.48 seconds. Diane Robison, Sparkle McKnight, Chrishuna Williams and Scott won the distance medley relay in 11:02.60.

Arkansas men ranked third

Arkansas was ranked third by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Association on Monday.

The Razorbacks were second in the South Central Regional rankings behind Texas A&M.

The Hogs participated in the Rod McCravy Memorial at Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky., Friday and Saturday. Andrew Irwin on the pole vault by clearing 18 feet, 4-3/4 inches.

BASKETBALL

Arkansas-Fort Smith’s Youngblood earns conference honor

Arkansas-Fort Smith’s Seth Youngblood was named Heartland Conference men’s player of the week.

Youngblood, a 6-1 guard, averaged 25 points per game in the Lions’ victories against Newman and Oklahoma Christian. He shot 58 percent from the field and 42 percent on three pointers and averaged 4.5 rebounds per game.

Harding’s Saunders honored by GAC

Harding forward Arielle Saunders was named women’s player of the week by the Great American Conference Monday.

Saunders scored 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting and had 14 rebounds against Arkansas Tech. She scored 20 points and had 19 rebounds against Arkansas-Monticello.

GYMNASTICS

Arkansas moves to No. 8 in rankings

Arkansas moved up four spots to No. 8 in this week’s Gyminfo Rankings after scoring 196.250 points at Auburn Friday night.

The No. 8 ranking gives Arkansas its first top-10 appearance this season and marks their highest since finishing No. 6 in 2012.

Arkansas is joined by SEC teams LSU at No. 2, Florida at No. 3 and Alabama at No. 6.

Amanda Wellick is tied for eighth in floor exercise at 9.908 and 14th in the vault at 9.900 and is 23rd in the overall at 39.192.

Heather Elswick and Samantha Nelson are ranked 21st and 24th on the floor exercise. Freshman Paige Zaziski is tied for 24th on the uneven bars.
