Stolen vehicle found engulfed in flames outside former school

Authorities are investigating after a stolen vehicle was found engulfed in flames outside a former North Little Rock elementary school Monday night.

Crews were called shortly after 11:30 p.m. to the former Lynch Drive Elementary School at 5800 Alpha St., where the vehicle was on fire near the back of the structure, according to a North Little Rock police report.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, which were hot enough to cause windows on the nearby building to break. Damage to the structure was estimated in the report at $1,500.

Police say they were informed on the scene that the car had been stolen from a residence a few blocks away.

No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made.

The school in North Little Rock's Rose City area closed last year as part of the North Little Rock School District's capital improvement plan.
