Texarkana coalition receiving more than $325,000 grant

TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Homeless Coalition is getting a grant for more than $325,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that will fund programs for the homeless.

The Texarkana Gazette reported that the program is among nearly 8,400 to receive $1.8 billion in grants from HUD. The grants are part of the federal agency's goals to end homelessness.

The new funds are expected to come in February or March, and the program will help the homeless understand how they got to be in their situation and ways they can become self-sufficient and prevent future homelessness.
