Free tax help available Saturday in LR, across Arkansas

Free tax help will be available in locations across Arkansas this coming “Super Saturday,” the Central Arkansas Development Council said Wednesday.

The nonprofit community action agency is teaming with the Internal Revenue Service and the Little Rock EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) Coalition to offer the service from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the State Fairgrounds Arts and Crafts Building, 2600 Howard St. in Little Rock. Volunteers at the event will be “IRS-certified and will work one-on-one with taxpayers to help them file their federal and state returns,” the agency said. Taxpayers may call ahead for an appointment at (501) 682-0228, but walk-ins will also be accepted.

The nonprofit group said more than 27 million workers in the U.S. over $65 billion in Earned Income Tax Credits last year.

“If you worked last year and your income is less than $52,425, you might be eligible for EITC, which could mean up to $6,143 in additional funds when you file a return and have qualifying children,” the Development Council said in a statement. “Workers with no qualifying children could be eligible for a smaller credit of up to $496. On average, EITC returns $2,400 to taxpayers.”

Those who want tax help should take along their family members’ Social Security cards, photo identification, W-2 or 1099 tax forms, copies of last year’s return, direct deposit information, and form 1095A or health-insurance statements, the agency said.
