Man pleads guilty in Memphis to selling anabolic steroids

MEMPHIS — Federal prosecutors say a New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to illegally selling anabolic steroids and a dietary supplement containing unlisted erectile dysfunction drugs.

The U.S. attorney's office in Memphis said Tuesday that Joseph De Melo Sr. is scheduled to be sentenced April 30 after he pleaded guilty to distributing anabolic steroids and intentionally misbranding a purported dietary supplement.

Prosecutors said De Melo owned Rezultz Distribution, located in Carrollton, Texas. The company sold dietary supplements in west Tennessee and throughout the country.

Prosecutors said De Melo conspired with others to distribute 40,000 pills of anabolic steroids, which are Schedule III controlled substances.

De Melo also distributed a supplement called Vertical, which contained erectile dysfunction drugs that were not listed on the label.
