Woman used hammer to burglarize Ashdown pharmacy, police say

ASHDOWN — The police chief of a southwest Arkansas community said a woman used a hammer to break into a pharmacy to steal about 3,000 pills.

Ashdown Police Chief Mark Ardwin said the 33-year-old woman was a former employee of the Walgreens pharmacy. He said she was arrested about an hour after officers were notified the business was broken into Monday night.

He told the Texarkana Gazette that after breaking the pharmacy's drive-thru window, the woman stood on a trash can to crawl through it. Police say she stole nearly 3,000 pain pills and a bottle of about 180 anxiety pills.

Detectives with the Ashdown Police Department are investigating.
