Westminster cites scholars

A total of 285 students were named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2014 semester at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. Those recognized included: Fayetteville: Gordon AlliSophomoren, a junior. Springdale: Grant Gershner, a senior. Bella Vista: Zachary Olson, a senior. Rogers: Ashley Schimmel, a senior. To be included on the Dean’s List, a student must have a 3.60 semester grade point average with at least 12 hours completed that semester.

Fort Hays State honors student

Scott Marquis Pendergraft of Harrison has earned a place on the fall 2014 Dean’s Honor Roll at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. Pendergraft is a freshman majoring in political science. The Dean’s Honor Roll includes undergraduate students only. To be eligible, students must have enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and have a minimum grade point average of 3.60 for the semester.

Siloam Springs names two

The Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of the 2015 Pioneer Citizen awards: Mike Moss Jr. and Mark Simmons. The Pioneer Citizen award is given to members of the Siloam Springs community who leads with their hearts, who face new challenges and who pave the way for new frontiers.

Among past winners are Mike Moss Sr. in 1991. M.L. “Moose” Van Poucke in 2006. and Bep Morrison in 2012.

Hartney’s book cited by authors

Washed in the Water: Tales from the South, seven literary short stories by Nancy Hartney, was recently honored with two awards by the Ozarks Writers League during the organization’s conference of the year in Branson, Mo.

Among other distinctions, the Best Book of the Year Fiction and the President’s Award are given annually to a work that represents an outstanding effort from a regional author.

Nancy Hartney, a Southerner by birth and upbringing, is a longtime photographer and journalist who turned her pen to fiction with her debut collection of short tales of the South. Hartney’s short stories have appeared in anthologies Voices and Echoes of the Ozarks and her Western tales have been published in Cactus Country, The Best of Frontier Tales and Rough Country.
