Martin, Lubambo mix Big Easy, Rio for jazz jam

Peter Martin and Romero Lubambo will perform their "New Orleans Meets Rio" show at 8 p.m. today in the third installment of the 2014-2015 Oxford American magazine's Jazz Series at South on Main.

Martin is a pianist, arranger and composer, and Lubambo, who is also a composer, plays guitar. Martin, who performed at South on Main in February, has played twice at the White House for the first family. He has toured or recorded with Wynton Marsalis and Chris Botti, and he performed on and arranged Dianne Reeves' Grammy Award-winning album, A Little Moonlight. Martin appeared in George Clooney's 2005 film, Good Night, and Good Luck, and he was the pianist and arranger on the Grammy-winning soundtrack.

Lubambo has performed with Yo-Yo Ma, Kathleen Battle and Michael Brecker.

AETN will film the event with multiple cameras.

Tickets are $30 for a reserved seat and $20 for general admission (bar stools and standing room).

That Arkansas Weather will perform at 9 p.m. Friday at The Afterthought. The band of musicians, educated at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, perform what they describe as a mix of jazz, soul and funk.

Alvin Youngblood Hart will perform at 9:30 p.m. Friday. Hart, a rock and country blues guitarist who also plays with Luther Dickinson and Jimbo Mathus in the South Memphis String Band, won a Grammy Award in 2005 for his contribution (the song "Nelly Was a Lady") to Beautiful Dreamer, a Stephen Foster tribute album.

Hart released his debut album, Big Mama's Door, in 1996, and has since released four more recordings, including the 2007 soundtrack to The Great Debaters, in which he also played a 1930s-era juke-joint musician.

Admission is $10.

Saturday, three bands will perform, starting at 9 p.m.: Duckstronaut, Sea Nanners and Collin vs. Adam.

Folk/rock singer-songwriter Kate Voegel will perform at 9 p.m. Saturday. Voegel, an Ohio native, released her debut major label album, Don't Look Away, in 2007, and was a cast member of the TV series One Tree Hill from 2008 to 2011. She also released the albums A Fine Mess in 2009 and Gravity Happens in 2011.
