MovieStyle: Married to the mob

In J.C. Chandor's A Most Violent Year, Oscar Isaac plays an immigrant chasing the American Dream as the owner of a heating oil supplier in 1981 New York.

He's an honest (mostly) man in a business rife with corruption and dominated by organized crime, but when he sees an opportunity to secure financial security for his company he figured he has to risk it. Philip Martin examines this different kind of crime drama.

Martin also reviews the much-anticipated Jennifer Aniston vehicle Cake, in which the former Friends star plays a woman who has been scarred both physically and emotionally.

Also opening this week are the Kevin Costner-Octavia Spencer drama Black or White, the found footage sci-fi programmer Project Almanac and the much-delayed The Loft, which didn't screen in time for our critics to get a look at it.

And, as usual, Karen Martin checks in with her report on this week's home video releases. All in this week's MovieStyle.
