Some doorknobs turn, and some are just screwy:
• The Golden Doorknob Award is a filmmaking competition at Ithaca College in New York. The contest is to make the best movie about somebody being killed by a doorknob.
• Doorknobs are handy places to hang clothes and other things: dog leashes, May baskets, "Do Not Disturb" signs -- and some people have hung themselves from doorknobs.
• An old method of tooth extraction was to tie one end of a string to the loose or sore tooth, the other end to a doorknob, and slam the door.
This worked for The Three Stooges, and it appears to work on YouTube. The website posts a mouthful of videos about door-slam dentistry, some with more than a million views.
