AG reorganization creates new wing

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge said Wednesday that she has reorganized the part of her office that represents state agencies and named an attorney to head the new department.

The State Agencies Division, which formerly operated under the umbrella of the attorney general's Civil Department, will now be its own department.

Meredith Rebsamen, who has worked at the office for nearly six years, was promoted by Rutledge to deputy attorney general and will lead the newly formed department.

Prior to her promotion, Rebsamen represented about 50 different state boards, two-year colleges and commissions while working for the former division. She will be paid $100,000 per year, about $17,000 more than she is currently paid, and will oversee seven attorneys in the new department.

The new department will do legal work for more than 200 state agencies, commissions, boards and two-year colleges. But when those entities are sued, the Civil Department will represent them in court.
