The chief of the Little Rock Police Department arrested a man suspected of robbing a woman of her cellphone Thursday.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Steve McClanahan said Chief Kenton Buckner was sitting in his personal vehicle waiting for a meeting in the 400 block of west Capitol Avenue about 11:45 a.m. when he heard a woman scream and saw a man run. The woman said the man, whom she did know, had stolen her phone.

Buckner followed the man, later identified as 33-year-old Carl Dotson, and took him into custody near Fourth and Louisiana streets, McClanahan said. He said Buckner was not in uniform, adding that he didn't know whether the chief drew his service weapon in making the arrest.

Dotson faces charges of robbery and theft of property.
