Mid-South officially part of ASU System

WEST MEMPHIS — Mid-South Community College in West Memphis is now a part of the Arkansas State University System and is now known as Arkansas State University Mid-South.

ASU System President Charles Welch said Thursday that the merger became official with approval from the Higher Learning Commission.

The merger was approved in January by the boards of both ASU and Mid-South Community College.

Officials have said ASU will benefit from Mid-South's workforce training programs and Mid-South would benefit from Arkansas State's support for funding workforce training programs

ASU Mid-South has about 2,000 students and the ASU System now has about 23,000 students at campuses statewide.
