Mingo Fishtrap, Mothwind blow in to Stickyz for shows

If there were an award here for most unusual band name to run across in 2015, the winner would be Mingo Fishtrap, performing at 9 p.m. today at Stickyz Rock 'n' Roll Chicken Shack.

Musicians who attended the University of North Texas in Denton and later moved to Austin formed Mingo Fishtrap in the mid-1990s. Roger Blevins Jr., a Mississippi native, leads the eight-man band, which mixes the sounds of Memphis and New Orleans, thanks to the group's horn section and keyboards. The group has released six albums, the latest of which, On Time, came out in June 2014.

Cover charge is $10.

Mothwind will host a music video wrap party at 9 p.m. Friday that will also feature sets by Stephen Neeper & The Wild Hearts and Becoming Elephants. Admission is $6.

Carolyn Wonderland performs at 9 p.m. Saturday. The heralded blues rock Austin singer-songwriter has released nine albums since 1993. Tickets are $5.

The Shadowboxers will play at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Cover charge is $8.

One More Time -- a tribute to Daft Punk -- takes the stage at 9 p.m. today at the Rev Room. Daft Punk, an electronic music duo from France, formed more than 20 years ago, becoming known for wearing helmets to disguise their true identities. Tickets are $10, $12 or $15.

One Love will present "Sizzlin' Hot Summerjam", a reggae and R&B show, at 9 p.m. Friday, with performances by Neff, Tim Anthony, Tawanna Campbell-Berry and Michael Walker. Hound is a Philadelphia band whose main influence is reportedly Black Sabbath. The Wandering is also from Philadelphia. Pockets, a central Arkansas power trio, consists of Dan Johnson (of The Contingencies), Eric Morris (The See) and Matt Quinn (American Princes). Donaldson, traveling with his Philadelphia friends, will deliver a short stand-up comedy act.

The Uh Huhs and Foxglove play at 9:30 p.m. Friday. Cover charge is $5.
