Parole absconder runs from traffic stop, is caught

A parole absconder ran from a traffic stop in North Little Rock on Thursday afternoon but was caught a short time later, authorities said.

Phillip Lamont Johnson, 32, of Little Rock was booked into the Pulaski County jail on charges of fleeing and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as a parole hold.

According to a North Little Rock Police Department report, an officer stopped a car Johnson was driving about 1:45 p.m. at 1500 Poplar St. because Johnson was not wearing a seatbelt. The report said he then got out and ran north from the area before being arrested about a block away.

Police say they found a digital scale in Johnson's pocket.

Johnson remained in jail Friday morning with a $2,000 bail set on the new charges.

Johnson is listed online as a parole absconder from the Little Rock district and is scheduled to remain on parole through 2025. Court records show he has convictions in Pulaski County including for possession of a controlled substance and maintaining drug premises in 2010 and domestic battery in 2009.
