Jason Satterfield, 44, who is serving a 15-year sentence for a hot-check violation, was recaptured about 2 p.m. Friday on Arkansas 161 near Rosemary Road, Arkansas Department of Correction spokesman Cathy Frye said.

Satterfield was spotted while walking along the highway by two Arkansas State Police special agents who were part of the search for him, Frye said. He was then taken into custody.

About 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Satterfield fled in a stolen truck from a work-release assignment at Whitten Concrete Co. in Pine Bluff. He stole $190 from the company's cash register along with a company-owned 1990 white Ford F-350 flatbed truck.

The truck was found about 9:30 a.m Friday near Eureka Garden and Ziegler roads just outside North Little Rock's northeast city limits, Frye said. Authorities began searching the area, including using a Department of Correction canine unit.

The truck was backed into woods near a residence, Frye said. A person spotted the truck Thursday afternoon in the vicinity but didn't think anything about it before contacting authorities Friday morning.

"The truck had clearly run out of gas because the concrete company owner had to bring gas out to refuel [it] before they could even get it out of there," Frye said.

Satterfield was taken back to the Pine Bluff unit for questioning and was scheduled to be transferred to the Department of Correction's maximum-security Tucker unit, Frye said.

No additional charges against Satterfield have been filed yet, she said.
