Clerks issue note on sales licenses

Complaints about solicitors going door-to-door in North Little Rock neighborhoods in recent weeks have prompted the North Little Rock City Clerk and Treasurer's office to issue reminders to residents that those salesmen must have a peddlers permit issued by the City Clerk's office.

A peddlers permit will include the person's name, photo, description, the dates during which the permit is valid, the person's employer and the merchandise being sold.

Residents are asked to phone the nonemergency number for the North Little Rock Police Department, 758-1234, if a peddler who comes to their door is unable to produce such an identification permit badge, according to information from the City Clerk's office.

To view issued permits, visit nlr.ar.gov, click on the Government Tab, then the City Clerk and Treasurer one, and finally on Licensed Peddlers. The City Clerk's office can also verify a business or peddlers permit between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays at 975-8617.

As of Friday, three permits had been issued for Southwestern Advantage sellers of educational books and software and 22 permits for employees of ARM Security for security systems and service.

Applications open for chamber leader

The North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce has begun accepting applications for the dual position of president and chief executive officer, chamber board of directors Chairman Steve Winchester announced Wednesday.

Chamber President Terry Hartwick announced in early June that he will leave the chamber at the end of the year to become North Little Rock Parks and Recreation director. Hartwick has been the chamber's president since January 2001.

Interested applicants can visit nlrchamber.org/ceo for details about the position. All applications are to be completed and submitted by July 31. For more information, contact the chamber at 501-372-5959 or email searchcommittee@nlrchamber.org.

Food trucks open on rotating weeks

Food trucks will be open to the public every first and third Wednesday of the month through Sept. 30 at Residence Inn by Marriott, 4100 Health Care Drive, the North Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau announced.

The event was first held Wednesday.

Food trucks to be serving are Katmandu Momo and The Pie Hole, the bureau's news release said.

In late May, the North Little Rock City Council unanimously approved legislation to ease city requirements for mobile food vendors, allowing them to operate on public and private properties with the approval of either the city or property owner.

Previously, the city allowed food trucks to operate only during special events held on public property and required a separate event permit. Those requirements were removed after criticism that the rules were so restrictive that food trucks would avoid doing business in North Little Rock.
