Movie institute honors native Graham Gordy

The local film community came together June 25 to acknowledge the latest success of Arkansas native Graham Gordy. The Arkansas Motion Picture Institute (AMPI) hosted A Celebration of Graham Gordy in the party room at South on Main.

Gordy is creator and an executive producer of Quarry, a new series picked up for eight episodes by Cinemax. Production on the series, based on novels by Max Allan Collins, began in March in New Orleans and Tennessee. The series will debut next year.

The guest of honor was introduced by AMPI board member Gary Newton. He said the Conway native has a master's degree in dramatic writing from New York University, and his screen credits include War Eagle, Arkansas and The Love Guru. His short films have won awards at film festivals including South by Southwest and the Austin Film Festival. He was also a writer and actor on Ray McKinnon's series Rectify.

The event raised funds for AMPI, a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to growth and excellence in film, television and digital media production, said board chairman Susan Altrui. It also provides support for the state's film festivals and emerging filmmakers.

Board member Sandra Marbaise was chairman of the event.
