Woman, 45, dies in crash on I-530

A Paragould woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Saline County on Friday night, according to a report from Arkansas State Police.

Shelly Morris, 45, was driving a 2008 Ford Focus north on Interstate 530 around 9:30 p.m. when she lost control and hit a 2015 International semitruck, which also was traveling north, according to the report. The collision caused the Ford Focus to leave the road and hit some trees.

Also Friday, a Portland woman was killed by a train while driving across railroad tracks in Ashley County around noon.

Betty Shuler, 82, was driving a 2009 Toyota west on Ashley County Road 53 and crossing the railroad tracks when a train hit the car, forcing it to roll twice before coming to a stop, the report said.

Shuler was pronounced dead at the scene.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of both crashes, state police said.
