Oklahoma police kill man they say pointed gun at helicopter

OKLAHOMA CITY — A man who authorities say pointed a handgun at a police helicopter and two officers in Oklahoma City has been shot and killed by police.

Oklahoma City police Capt. Paco Balderrama said officers were looking for an armed man who tried to break into vehicles at an apartment complex Saturday when a neighbor pointed him out to officers as he fled. Balderrama said a police helicopter crew spotted him as two officers on the ground pursued him.

Authorities said the man aimed a handgun at the helicopter and then at the pursuing officers. Officers on the ground returned fire and killed the suspect.

Balderrama said no officers were injured. He said the names of the officers and the suspect will be released later.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on routine leave pending an investigation.
