FRONTIER FOURTH OF JULY

Museum offers a peek at old-fashioned holiday

A cheer went up from the crowd as another Red Coat fell to the ground. The British and the American Militia re-enactors fired volleys at each other July 4 during a re-enactment of the Revolutionary War Battles of Lexington and Concord. The "battle" was waged at Historic Arkansas Museum's farmstead as part of Frontier Fourth of July.

Also during the annual patriotic celebration, guests could sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence, train for the militia, play pioneer games and enjoy watermelon and lemonade.

Later, re-enactors, the newly trained militia and children who had made flags and streamers at one of the craft stations were invited to parade through the grounds to the Independence Day Ceremony, where the crowd sang patriotic songs and listened as the Declaration of Independence was read by 2nd District U.S. Rep. French Hill, R-Ark.
