Binder booked at The Joint; 2 free patio shows at Juanita's

Roy Book Binder will perform at 7:30 p.m. today at The Joint at the monthly Argenta Arts Acoustic Music Series show. Tickets are $20.

Binder got his start in the historic Greenwich Village folk and blues scene in New York, learning guitar from and later driving for the Rev. Gary Davis in the 1960s. Binder also ran with Dave Van Ronk and played with Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, Pink Anderson and Fats Kaplin. He is a frequent instructor and performer at Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio, and has toured in recent years with Bonnie Raitt, Hot Tuna and J.J. Cale.

The third annual Crystal Music Festival will be held Saturday at the Board Camp Campground & Crystal Mine, 10 miles east of Mena in Board Camp. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature local music throughout the day, culminating with Tulsa native Kinsey Sadler at 6 p.m. and headline attraction, singer-songwriter Lance Carpenter, at 7 p.m.

There will also be crystal digging from noon to 5 p.m.

Festival tickets are $10 for those ages 12 and over; crystal digging in the mine is an extra $10 for those ages 12 and over; free for children under age 12.
