Two killed in wreck near Gravette

Two Northwest Arkansas residents were killed Thursday night in a wreck involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger car near Gravette, according to a report from the Arkansas State Police.

Joe Maldonado, 39, of Springdale, and Crystal Johnson, 34, of Gravette, were killed. Nobody else was involved in the wreck.

Maldonado was driving a 2014 Mack tractor-trailer east on Arkansas 72 when he struck Johnson's 2002 Honda Accord, also traveling east, from behind, according to the report. The Honda spun off the highway and rolled, and Johnson was ejected from the vehicle.

Maldonado's semitrailer went off the highway, jackknifed and struck trees, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation, and the details of the wreck are based on preliminary information, the report stated. It does not indicate whether Maldonado or Johnson were wearing seat belts.
