The Class 4A Senators finished 2-1 in pool play, beating Clarksville and Clinton and losing to Little Rock Catholic. Robinson defeated Jonesboro 20-2 in the quarterfinals, Little Rock Central 28-8 in the semifinals and Sylvan Hills in the final.

Hammonds, a running back/wide receiver who has orally committed to the University of Arkansas, and junior running back Myles Fells did not play. Coach Todd Eskola said he wanted to rest Hammonds and Fells to give younger players a chance to play.

Senior quarterback Brennen Johnson threw three touchdown passes, all to sophomore wide receiver Nathan Page. Johnson also intercepted a pass, which was worth two points.

"I was real proud of the way they came and competed," Eskola said. "The kids did a good job."

Robinson took a 7-0 lead on Johnson's first touchdown pass, a 4-yard toss to Page. Sylvan Hills cut the lead to 7-6 on junior Jordan Washington's touchdown pass to senior Cameron Sharp.

Page caught his second touchdown pass of the final to make it 14-6. Senior Brandon Bracley bobbled a pass from Washington but held on for the touchdown as Sylvan Hills pulled to within 14-12.

Sylvan Hills tied the game at 14-14 on an interception, but Johnson intercepted Washington on the Bears' next series to give the Senators a 16-14 lead.

Johnson found Page for the third time as the Senators took a 22-14 lead.

"We're really young and we made some young mistakes," Sylvan Hills Coach Jim Withrow said. "We've got guys who can make plays, but if we're going to be a high-quality group we have to clean up the mistakes. I thought we got better as we went along."

The fourth annual tournament honored Uekman, who played for Little Rock Catholic and was a redshirt freshman tight end at Arkansas when he died unexpectedly Nov. 20, 2011, from an enlarged heart. He was 19.
