Rousey's rule appreciated by Iron Mike

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (left) and former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson have a lot of similar traits in the ring, Tyson told The Associated Press on Thursday.

When Mike Tyson watches Ronda Rousey carve a violent path through the UFC women's bantamweight division, he can't help but be reminded of his own reign of destruction from decades past.

"Ronda, she's a lady. Polite, kind, sweet and adorable," Tyson told The Associated Press on Thursday. "But her whole barometer is, she's a killer. She has that killer aura, meaning anything is capable of happening. Whoa! That's exciting before the fight even starts. I think of myself when I watch her."

Never one to shy away from hyperbole, UFC President Dana White isn't ignoring the comparison.

"These are the two greatest to ever walk the planet in their sports," White said. "Not many people in the world can relate to that."

With seemingly no legitimate challengers on the horizon, Rousey is likely to set to rule the 135-pound division with an iron fist for a long while.

"If you want to become anything close to being a god, the first thing you've got to know how to do is know how to decimate," Tyson said. "If you're a god you have to know how to decimate, and that's what she does.

"It would be very easy for her to have a big head: 'I can beat anybody in this world.' I don't know. Maybe she's a likeness of a god."

Taunting Tiger

Tiger Woods seems to find himself in hazards wherever he goes these days.

Woods finished 4 over par Thursday in the opening round of the British Open. It wasn't a terrible round in theory, but it was an awful round given the wide-open conditions at the time he was playing and the fact many still consider him an elite golfer.

All of which led Woods to joke about possible retirement, saying "I don't have my AARP card yet."

So AARP, surely disappointed that kids today don't respect their elders, offered up a response via Twitter to Woods' implicit criticism that having an AARP card implied it was the end of the line and time to retire.

Unlike Woods, however, the organization was right on target with its shot.

"@TigerWoods It's better to be over 50 than it is to be over par. #DisruptAging #TheOpen."

Watt does it all

Houston Texans star J.J. Watt can do about anything on the football field.

He is known for sacking quarterbacks, forcing fumbles, catching passes and scoring touchdowns.

As it turns out, Watt also can break the news to fans that they are going to be parents.

A law clerk for Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett convinced Watt to break the news to her husband that he was going to be a father. Learning that news would surprise any parent-to-be, but hearing it -- well, seeing it -- from one of the NFL's biggest stars makes the moment even more memorable.

"How does an All-Star @JusticeWillett law clerk tell her husband they're expecting? She enlists All-Galaxy @JJWatt!," Willett tweeted Thursday morning with a picture of Watt holding the sign, "Steve Burke, You're going to be a Dad!"
