Third arrest made in slaying at home

Little Rock police arrested a third person Friday night in connection with the slaying of a 68-year-old man found dead in his home July 8.

Calvin Thornton Jr., 27, was arrested on capital murder and theft of property charges, said Lt. Steven McClanahan, spokesman for the Little Rock Police Department. Thornton was arrested in Little Rock at 1600 S. Pierce St. by U.S. marshals and Little Rock police, McClanahan said.

Police announced Thursday they were seeking Thornton and have said they do not expect any further arrests.

Thornton is the third person arrested in connection with the death of Fred Pohnka Jr., who was found beaten to death in his home at 1217 S. Jackson St.

Malcolm Jamel Cooksey, 24, and Alexandria Levette Martin, 27, were arrested earlier this week.

Cooksey was arrested Wednesday and is being held on capital murder and theft of property charges at the Pulaski County jail.

Martin was arrested Tuesday and pleaded innocent Wednesday morning to charges of capital murder, theft by receiving and fraudulent use of a credit card. Martin is also being held at the Pulaski County jail.
