Insane Inflatable 5K a bouncy obstacle run

The latest in a veritable onslaught of themed obstacle races is making its Arkansas debut at North Little Rock's Burns Park on Saturday. The Insane Inflatable 5K manages to take the allure of its Warrior Dash/Conquer the Gauntlet cousins and combine it with giving all of the "big kids" out there the chance to reclaim the bouncy castle from their seventh birthday party memories.

The 5K strings together 11 inflated obstacles over a 3.1 mile course that require racers to climb, jump, bounce and slide their way to the finish. Notable obstacles include Tangled Up, the equivalent of a 3-D maze, and Pure Misery, which is 100 feet of obstacle inspired by military training courses.

The first wave of runners will start at 8:45 a.m. with a new wave every 15 minutes until the last wave is released at noon. Runners are advised to arrive an hour before their wave time and have a valid ID for packet pickup.

Online registration is available through Friday for $64. Race-day registration costs $75. An All Access Pass, which allows entry into any wave even if it is already full and includes a $20 merchandise credit, costs $100. Entry fees include a T-shirt, race bib and a finisher's medal.

Not just for the "child in all of us," actual children are more than welcome to run this obstacle course as there is no minimum age; but participants must be at least 42 inches tall.

The race will not be timed, but bibs will be used to identify runners for free race photos taken by photographers scattered throughout the course.

Afterward, racers can hang out with friends and family at the Insane Midway, where there will be merchandise, food and drink (including adult beverages), music and activities for all ages.
