Pirates 10, Royals 7

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Travis Ishikawa had three extra-base hits and drove in four runs as the Pittsburgh Pirates outslugged the Kansas City Royals 10-7 on Monday night.

Ishikawa, who was 1 for 13 with 1 RBI in 9 games since the Pirates claimed him on waivers July 5, hit a two-run double during a four-run second inning. He homered in the fifth with Jung Ho Kang aboard.

A.J. Burnett (8-3) won despite giving up a season-high five earned runs and 11 hits -- including two home runs -- in his initial start since his first career trip to the All-Star game. The 38-year-old right-hander pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the second.

The Royals cut the deficit to 8-7 in the seventh and chased Burnett (Central Arkansas Christian, North Little Rock). Mike Moustakas homered leading off the inning. Eric Hosmer had an RBI triple for his third hit and scored on Kendrys Morales' groundout.

Pittsburgh answered with Neil Walker's two-run triple in the eighth off Luke Hochevar.

Mark Melancon worked the ninth for his 30th save in 31 opportunities. He has converted a franchise-record 28 consecutive saves.

Starling Marte had three hits, one of three Pirates with multihit games. Ishikawa doubled twice.

Morales, who hit a two-run home run off the right-field foul pole in the fifth, leads the American League with 65 RBI.

Royals right-hander Yordano Ventura (4-7) was pulled in the fifth. He gave up six runs on 11 hits and a walk.

PHILLIES 5, RAYS 3 Cesar Hernandez doubled, tripled and drove in two runs, and David Buchanan earned his first victory in almost a year, leading host Philadelphia over Tampa Bay. Buchanan (1-5) snapped his winless skid at 15 starts by allowing 3 runs and 6 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Logan Forsythe doubled and had two RBI for the Rays, who have lost 10 of their past 12 road games. Matt Moore (1-1) gave up 4 runs on 5 hits in 4 2/3 innings in his third start since coming back from Tommy John surgery.

ROCKIES 8, RANGERS 7 Ben Paulsen hit a tiebreaking single with one out in the bottom of the ninth, and host Colorado recovered from blowing a seven-run lead to beat Texas. Troy Tulowitzki homered and Nolan Arenado had two RBI for Colorado, which has won a season-best five in a row at home. Prince Fielder had two hits and three RBI and Adrian Beltre had three hits for the Rangers, who have lost 10 of 12. Beltre's second double of the night tied it at 7-7 in the ninth against closer John Axford (2-2), but the Rockies rallied in the bottom of the inning against Tanner Scheppers (3-1).
